Shopping for a wedding guest outfit is often tricky. Whether you are the mother of the bride or a close family member, or whether the wedding is at a registry office or a great lavish banquet, choosing the perfect wedding guest dress or suit can at best times turn into a shopping dilemma.
As we approach the wedding season, here are some essential tips on how to look and feel great on a wedding day without the fear of overshadowing the bride.
Mother of the Bride: Being the mother of the bride is nerve wracking, and just like the bride all eyes will be on you, so here are some golden tips to take on board when shopping for your outfit:
Talk frankly to your daughter about the styles and colours that she would like you to wear. Discuss your ideas with the mother of the groom as you don’t want to end up wearing the same colours or indeed a very similar outfit. Shop around and give yourself plenty of time. If your budget is small consider department stores like John Lewis or Debenhams as they have a great stylish and affordable collection to choose from. Think about renting a designer evening gown for the occasion, this is a cheaper option to buying a designer dress; and finally whatever you do, make sure that your choice of outfit doesn’t outshine the bride.
Guests: Before you set off on a shopping spree for the right wedding guest outfit, consider the location and the theme of the wedding. Here are some points to think through when shopping for your outfit.
If you are jetting off to warmer climates invest in beautiful natural fibres and avoid synthetics as they will make you feel uncomfortable and hot. The theme and the venue also play a big part, for example an extravagant evening gown won’t work for a registry office wedding. Stick to simple colourful dresses if the ceremony is an afternoon do. For evening receptions go for some sparkly sequins and glamorous metallic fabrics. Shop around and be creative, try to mix and match designers and high street, as you will be less likely to bump into somebody wearing the same outfit.
Ideas and Styles: For a day wedding reception: Satin dresses in bright and airy shades, floral dresses coupled with a jacket or cardigan, flirty feminine suits with short jackets. For an evening wedding reception: long cocktail gowns, sequins dresses, metallic dresses.
