1930s Fashion Revival

1930s Fashion Revival

Summer’s arrived and so has 1930’S revival! There was a strong vibe of Gatsby glamour to the early spring/summer 2012 catwalks this season with designers bringing out their models in flapper dresses and beaded gowns that highlighted the irresistible chic glamour of the twenties. Ralph Lauren’s collection Philosophy touched on this timeless era on the catwalk with his models displaying layers of pastel colours such as light pink, sky blue and pale yellow overlapped to create a nostalgic hue that is perfect for this summer. The dresses were classically white and drop waist creating an elegant ornate look which is bound to catch on this year, white being this seasons colour. It can be seen on nails, clutches and shoes all over the Milan and Paris shows. Gucci’s SS12 campaign had many thirties references the colour palette was white with a lot of silver metallic edging and detail adding a stylish sexy twist. Hair and makeup was kept minimal and soft with models wearing a hint of smoky eyes and scarlet lips. Of course this chic trend is nothing without its accessorising Cloche hats were seen on the runway paired with printed duck egg blue print silk scarves that added a touch of affluent vintage. The showgirl look is bound to keep us guessing this year with inspiration taken from old Hollywood icons such as Greta Garbo, Mae West and of course the sophisticated famed glamour of London in the early 20’s.
