A fresh prim and pastel mood has swept designers on the catwalk lately with a retro Americana boom. Think jocks and cheerleaders, Grease, exposed midriffs and the swing of a polka dot net skirt; Americana is here to stay. Prada, Proenza Schouler and Marc Jacobs revived this effortlessly ladylike trend taking inspiration from 50’s Cadillac and power dressing. At Prada the cartoon car was everywhere printed on skirts, blouses, and handbags against dreamy blue and sunshine yellow backgrounds of satin creating a quirky twist. This year has been all about Nostalgia and revival and beyond the musky scent of Chanel and dreamy echoes of Frank Sinatra. As we witnessed once again the enchanting 50’s silhouette, high waist skirts and bustier tops that celebrated woman curves and sexual prowess. Cat eye sunglasses added a touch of feminine mystique paired with cream gloves and a swing skirts. Miuccia Prada embraced this trend head on with the stage set out like parking lots and cartoon Styrofoam car seats for the guests. Cartoon prints are on everyone’s wishlist this year so think Monroe, cat eyes and 50’s this summer for a take on this quirky iconic look.
