Tie-Dye Trend

One trend that has returned with a bang is tie-dye!! It’s infected the celebrity world and now our streets. Stores are selling them at the bucket load and so they should! I love the creativity and the look of the jeans; it’s adds that signature look to an outfit. Many females have been influenced by YouTube fashion and beauty bloggers to do DIY tie dye jeans/shorts on old pieces of clothing and I must say the outcomes are amazing!! You can create your very own look, inspired by you and hey!!  It’s free!! This is definitely something to invest in for the summer ladies!!

Trend Watch Peplum

Have you ever stood in front of your wardrobe, wondering what you could possibly wear on a night out? Do you think your wardrobe needs a little bit of sophistication? Well, I have chosen a few pieces to get you started.

Since I’ve been shopping a lot during this summer, I’ve found the peplum trend taking over the clothing rails in stores. This particular silhouette gives a touch of elegance to your overall look as it enhances your figure to give you some curvy hips.

The peplum trend has become increasingly popular recently. It gives outfits that extra bit of detail without you having to worry about styling it yourself. Such a simple yet effective overall look!

Platforms to Flatforms

Platforms to Flatforms

Say farewell to the platform because there’s a new shoe in town. The flatform has stomped its way into the fashion scene. And with the eccentricity of the design it really is the Marmite in the world of fashion. This unique and current trend is a revamp of the 70s and 90s inspired platform shoe. But instead of the traditional arched sole, the foot lays on a flat platform  (hence the neologism ‘flatform’).  This means that you can still gain the height of a platform, but with the comfort of a flat shoe. So your feet won’t be aching after a long day of shopping – perfect! Ranging from buckled straps, floral/animal prints and brogue style lace ups, the flatform (also known as ‘creepers) is available in a wide variety of styles. Designers such as Michael Kors and Yves Saint Laurent have endorsed the trend and the quirky shoes have also been spotted on fashionista Rihanna. So if you dare to be brave then you too can look funky in flatforms. You either love them or hate them – which one is you?

Christian Louboutin’s Cinderella Slippers

Christian Louboutin’s Cinderella Slippers

Being Cinderella….I always wanted!

Loving Christian Louboutin? I think there is no point asking.

Every girl dreams to find its own prince one day and live the fairytale, but in this one is all about the shoes!

So the story goes like this…. one of my favourite shoe designers decided to put his signature stamp on one of the most iconic accessories in fairytale history.

The slippers design is crystal covered with two butterflies resting on the shoes!

Now that I got my shoes, I need to find my prince!

Ps: Apparently this November, Harrods will unveil their Christmas windows which will showcase couture incarnations of Disney Classic Princess dresses by the likes of Versace, Elise Saab, Valentine and Oscar de la Renta. The luxurious store will also hold various events and promotions, dedicating a 7,000 sq. ft. area which will be entirely Disney dedicated.

Can’t wait for a magic Christmas!!

Celebrity Trend Watch Metallica

A trend that has caught my eye this year and all for a good reason is the Metallic trend.  Every trend can be either a success, or in the words of Andre Leon Talley ‘Dreckitude’ and the Metallic trend could have been as it somewhat reminds audiences of tin-foil (probably down to the shininess of the material). However I am pleased to say that the Metallic trend has definitely been a winner in the eyes of the world. The trend stormed in during the Oscars early this year as celebrities sparkled down the red carpet, made an appearance during the MET Gala and is still going strong as celebrities continue to work the trend. The figures of the celebrities are also a key factor in what makes this trend work!!

Sky High Wedges

Sky High Wedges

This season is all about showing off those legs in sky high heels. Although we’ve all had our doubts about the British weather this season, it has recently brightened up a little, meaning we can wear our favourite wedges during the day as well as night.

One of my favourites is the “Jeffrey Campbell Rockley Cut Out Wedge”. Simply team them up with a LBD (little black dress) on a night out. Alternatively, they will match a pair of denim shorts, so dig out your summer clothes from your wardrobe while the weather’s a treat!

I have to admit, I prefer to wear wedges rather than stiletto heels as they provide a bigger platform for you to walk on, which means better balance! I’ve recently found a lot of great purchases in New Look. If you’re looking for good quality at a fairly low price, New Look is the place for you. With their incredibly wide range of shoes, you’re bound to find a pair that appeals to you!

Watchtower wedge in black and pink price £16 from Office

Wiped nude gilet tie wedge price £48 from Miss Selfridge

Jeffrey Campbell Rockley Cut out Wedge price £158.58 from Free People

Black and white stripe wedge price £55 from River Island

Ravel peep toe turquoise wedges price £90 from Republic

Harvat blue wedge sandals price £80 from Aldo

Très Chic Olivia Palermo

Très Chic Olivia Palermo

Très Chic are rarely words used to describe a past reality TV star, but in Olivia Palermo’s case, it fits like a glove. Palermo was cast in the 2010 MTV reality show “The City”. Thrown into a cast more interested in boys and booze than their careers, Palermo stood out from the rest with her effortless style and insatiable appétit for fashion, that was not so admired by other cast members. Regardless, unlike many, Palermo has been able to shed that part of her life without any fuss, jumping right out of reality TV and right into the fashion world, full force. Scoring modeling campaigns with brands such as Hogan, Carrera y Carrera, Mango, and most recently has become the face of the French brand Rochas new perfume, Les Cascades de Rochas. This year Palermo launched a blog, oliviapalermo.com that gives a glimpse into Palermo’s favourite boutiques, brands, and beauty and style tips landing the blog the “best newcomer blog” from the bloglovin awards. Amongst her campaigns, and other fashion ventures her most important strength is her style, and her ability to combine lowbrow brands such as Top- Shop and Zara with highbrow brands like Christian Dior, and look like a million bucks. Her young and polished looks have become her signature, and has set her apart from her other young counterparts, crowning her a favourite amongst fashion magazines, style blogs and Pinterest boards. Begging the question “The City” who?

DIY Denim Vest

DIY Denim Vest

There’s no denying that denim jackets from summer 2011 have carried into this summer, but what about the denim vest? I am obsessing over denim vests! This trend is in full swing despite the British weather and lack of opportunities to sport a vest. Denim vests are in all the shops from Urban Outfitters to Topshop to New Look, etc.

I’ve recently discovered Pinterest, which is mentioned in an earlier blog post on here (see June 27th, 2012 by Zainab Hussein “Pin Away”). Pinterest offers some great Do It Yourself (DIY) ideas, especially for ‘making’ your own denim vest. Check out the website and discover how to make your own vest out of your dad’s old denim shirt or one of your cropped denim jackets that you perhaps haven’t worn in a while. I know that I am seriously considering cutting off the sleeves from one of my cropped light-wash denim jackets. Hopefully, I will look at it in a new, inspired light!

I’ve seen all different styles of denim vests such as types of washes (dark or light, acid wash, etc.) UK or USA flag-inspired vests, and also tie-dye washed and coloured denim vests. I believe that a denim jacket can serve as a great staple item but also express individuality and the same is true for a denim vest. I’ve seen the vests worn just as is (with perhaps a tank top underneath) and also with a long-sleeve top underneath and the vest worn as more of a layered accessory.

The Lace Trend

The Lace Trend

Summer 2012 is full of ladylike, romantic and sweet touches.  I am obviously talking about the lace trend which has seen a big revival on designer catwalks and also on the high street.  Fashion designers like Preen, Moschino Cheap and Chic and Valentino added extra feminine touches to their collections with the use of lace and embroideries on skirts, dresses and tops.

I have also spotted a lot of lace on accessories this summer, from belts to bags and from shoes to funky jewellery, there is something for everyone one!

One of my favourite summer lace Catwalk Look is from Preen.  To help copy this trend I have compiled a list of this season’s must-have lace clothes and accessories

This daisy lace front t-shirt has cap sleeves and a plain stretch back is a cute summer and an essential item for any wardrobe, price £45 from Oasis

If you are looking for the perfect summer lace dress, invest in this by Emilio Pucci timeless lace dress, price £1570 from net-a-porter.com

This skirt by Diane Von Furstenberg is also one of my favourite and has just gone on sale, price £133 from matches.com

For accessories, I love these Jeffrey Campbell Lita Shoe lace boots, price £113 from nelly.com, they go great with a pair of denim trousers.

Alexander McQueen’s lace clutch is a step away from the ordinary; it also adds a touch of class to any day or evening summer outfit, this clutch is available from couture.zappos.com

Finally if you are looking to for that perfect present I suggest this soap from Bayan Loutra which comes packaged in a beautiful lace pouch price £20.40 it is available from bayanloutra.co.uk and also from stilorama.com

Trend Watch…The Pajama

Trend Watch…The Pajama

Whoever thought that a piece of clothing designed for the night time in one’s home, would become a hit sensation and become daytime wear? Yes, I’m talking about the Pajama trend.  From Rihanna strutting down the red carpet in Emilio Pucci, to Salma Hayek making her way through an airport, celebrities left, right and centre seem to be paying homage to Hugh Hefner’s daily apparel.  There’s definitely been a mixed reception; perhaps because some wear the trend better than others. One key thing I’ve noticed that makes the trend work is heels. The heels detract attention from the somewhat bizarre outfit resulting in a very much chic look.  My personal favourite would have to be Salma’s chequered pajama. Even though she seems to be wearing dolly shoes, the red lip, the red pattern on her shoes and on the fabric, I believe  makes the outfit brilliant! Elisa Sednaoui comes second. The tight sequined blazer is tres chic and makes the pajama outfit look somewhat wearable. Perhaps that is why in certain parts of London, I have seen girls in pajamas roaming the streets! If this trend does go mainstream let’s hope we follow in the ways of our stylish celebrities before us!!
