While floral, tribal, and polka dot prints have garnished all of the runways this season, perhaps it’s time to take note of a much simpler yet chic trend; women emulating men’s business wear. Creating a sweet, boyish look is very easy and results in a sophisticated styled outfit. This look is perfect for the office, dinner with friends, or even weekend brunch.
I absolutely love the idea of ‘unisex’ trousers such as the ones from American Apparel. These trousers are very flattering and can be dressed up or down by pairing with either flats or oxfords for a more casual look and then heels for a dressed up/nighttime look.
Completing any outfit with an oversized, extra long blazer is a great way to incorporate the ‘menswear’ trend. A blazer such as the Drape Longline Blazer from Topshop can even be worn with a pair of shorts. Accessorise with a simple colour blocked clutch or a handbag that resembles a briefcase and you’re in total man mode!
American actress and star of the recent film Snow White and the Huntsman (2012), Kristen Stewart, was photographed for Elle Magazine in menswear for the magazine’s June issue cover, providing inspiration for how to interpret the trend. Stewart looks fantastic in the shoot—the perfect balance of edginess and simple sophistication.
