Gianfranco Ferré AW2012 RTW Catwalk Review

Gianfranco Ferré’s AW2012 RTW collection was a tribute to the late designer, who was known for creating beautiful luxurious designs for women who love to work and play.  Ferré’s design house is now under the artistic direction of Stefano Citron and Federico Piaggi, who seem to have managed to stay faithful to Ferré’s vision, by reviving some of his old characteristic of architectural structured designs.  The new collection which was shown in Milan Fashion Week yesterday the 27th of February 2012 echoes the late designer’s trademark of asymmetrical dresses and beautiful tailored yet very feminine clothes.  The colour theme was a mixture between dark blue, grey with some metallic touches.  Fabrics included cashmere, silk and leather with plenty fur trimmings and some playful sequins.  Both designers have delivered a great collection which will no doubt be copied by many high street retailers.

Helena Christensen launches her Triumph Essence’s SS2012 collection at Selfridges

Helena Christensen Triumph Essence SS2012 Launch at Selfridges

Stilorama was invited on the 23rd of February to join supermodel Helena Christensen at Selfridges in London’s Oxford Street, for the launch of her new Lingerie Collection for Triumph Essence’s Spring/Summer 2012 range, so I grabbed Stilorama’s Photo Editor Serene Haddad-Sayles and Yasmina Huckins, and off we went. The former Victoria’s Secret beauty and the brand’s international ambassador, was radiant as she unveiled the three main pieces she designed for the new range, joking around and proving that she still has what it takes to charm the cameras.
Helena Christensen for The Luxury Collection is a unique experience: Inspired by the delicate fabrics & allure of the new collection, Triumph created a seductive fairytale theme. Striking visuals, including a forest made from lace, set on a magical blue backdrop, invite you on a journey to ‘Follow the path to your fantasy’. This journey starts even before you reach the store, with digital escalator panels at Oxford Circus and Bond Street drawing you into the fantasy world without giving too much away. Either side of the main doors as you arrive at the store are two stunning window displays depicting the lacy blue forest scene.

Inside is where real life merges with the digital world: Enthralling shoppers with a fully immersive experience, the Triumph ‘Fantasy Mirror’ allows shoppers to experience this exquisite collection without removing a single item of clothing. This uniquely interactive way of trying on lingerie requires shoppers just to select their item of underwear on the digital touch screen and then watch as the mirror creates a 3D visualisation that perfectly maps it to their shape.

It’s this kind of attention to detail that draws Helena Christensen to Triumph Essence as brand ambassador. “For me, it’s essential  for a lingerie company to have a female perspective. After all, women are wearing these  pieces and it’s all about what makes you feel good. And these sophisticated styles definitely do that.”

*Appointments to use the Fantasy Mirror with a Triumph fitting assistant can be booked through the Augmented Reality Triumph Essence app.

Nicole Farhi AW2012 Catwalk Review

This year marks the 30th anniversary of Nicole Farhi’s launch of her brand.  With her AW2012 collection, Nicole stayed faithful to her trademark, which is designing beautiful, luxurious and very wearable clothes.  The colour palette was clean and uncomplicated, with plenty of whites and smoky dark greys, she also used a lot of metallic bronze and sequins.  In addition to the dark hues, she used a good deal of warm autumnal shades like mustardy yellow and orange, which is reminiscent of the early 1980s colour palette.

We also spotted few celebrities at the show including Alex Arnold from the TV series Skins, the British actor Bill Nighy, and the gorgeous TV presenter Jameela Jamil.

First Day at London Fashion Week A/W2012

First day at London Fashion Week started on a positive note.  Fashionistas, reporters, fashion savvies and celebrities, all enjoyed a rain-free day.

Thanks to the good weather and to the perfect setting, Stilorama Magazine’s team spent the day at Somerset House where we went backstage with Corrie Nielsen, Bora Aksu and Felder Felder.

Some of the celebrities spotted on the day were Alexandra Burke who chatted to us at the Felder Felder show.

Our LFW VIP guest was the winner of Miss Arab London 2011, the gorgeous “Sandra Jasmine”. She spent the day with us while we filmed with Al Alamia TV Moda Mia show.

Here are some highlights of our 1st day at LFW.

True Love

True Love

Most people wear their heart on their sleeve; I wear my heart on my feet. Like most women I’ve had my fair share of relationships, suffice to say they haven’t been my most favoured memories. There have been a few however, that have remained consistent in my life though I haven’t remained faithful to one. Christian, Jimmy and Alexander are the three that I can never seem to leave. At times it’s hard to juggle between the three, and I really can’t name a favourite, but somehow I always manage to share my time between them equally whilst achieving fulfillment.
They say that Valentine’s Day is a day to spend with your loved one, and although that should be the case every day if you do have a loved one, Valentine’s Day is special. So how do you spend this special day if in fact you have to spend it in three different ways?  You learn to juggle.
I can spend a beautiful morning with Christian having brunch at Bluebird Chelsea, then go home in time to change and take Jimmy out to the theatre for a matinée showing of ‘The Woman In Black’. Once that’s over it’s time for a third wardrobe change and then it’s off to Walton street with Alexander to bar hop from London’s hippest bar to the next.

Having successfully divided my time between the three they would be far from disappointed, as would I. The way I see it, you don’t need a date for Valentine’s Day nor do you need the impractical gifts that he comes with, whether they be flowers, chocolates or any heart-shaped candy of the sort. What you need is to spend quality time with those who deserve it, the ones that stick with you through thick and thin and are capable of making you feel good at your worst and even better at your best. If you are unfortunate enough not to have experienced that sort of loving, I suggest you start your hunt before it’s too late, because all the good shoes have been taken and the ones left are hard to find.

A Tribute To Whitney Houston

The sad news of Whitney Houston’s sudden death who reportedly passed away yesterday in her hotel room at the Beverly Hilton Hotel at the age of 48, has come as a shock to many people around the globe, especially for those of us who remember her rise to fame back in the mid-1980s.  While the investigations into the cause of her sudden death were going on, the Clive Davis Pre-Grammy party carried on as usual with celebrities attending the event at the same hotel only few floors below Ms Houston’s room.

Her death marks an end of an era, as she will now take centre stage in our collective consciousness as a once in a lifetime diva and music legend.

Stilorama Magazine looks back at some memorable moments of Whitney Houston’s life.
