Paris Couture Georges Chakra S/S 2010

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

The Lebanese designer Georges Chakra showed his Spring/Summer 2010 Couture collection in Paris on the 25th of 2010 at L’École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux Arts.

Drawing inspiration from nature’s beauty, Chakra’s collection is very feminine and treads the fine line between reality and fantasy.

A collection of forty three dresses was presented characterised by varying geometric lines, contemporary designs, contrasting hues combined with delicate necklines and asymmetrical cuts.

All shades reflect summer tonalities: flamboyant pink-orange of sunset, flashes of metallic blue, sparkling gold and silver and the eternal beauty of black and white, create unparalleled elegance and sophistication.

Textures came in an endless variety ranging from luscious layers of chiffon, tulle, organza, lace, to satin and silk embroidered with sequins, feathers, rhinestones and pearls.

With its magical touch, this outstanding collection will undoubtedly leave in its wake a breath of sunshine and a gust of shimmering light.

Celebrities at the fashion show included the Egyptian actress and well known pan-arab figure Youssra who was wearing a black dress by Chakra’s and the French actress Cyrielle Claire as well as a large audience of international press and VIPs gave the designer a well deserved standing ovation at the end of his show.

Cover Story…Cover Up In Style

Saturday, January 23rd, 2010

Sumptuously sexy and utterly sophisticated, winter’s toppers are a twist on the old classics. In a season where the collective conscience is one of sartorial security, designers have returned to the more traditional styles; think camel hair, pinstripes, tweed and double breasting.   Winter’s cover-ups offer a plethora of shapes and styles, but the emphasis is on sensible investment pieces. The classic Burberry trench has never gone out of style, but this season it returns to take the spotlight and with a whole social networking site dedicated to the appreciation of this particular topper, it’s never been more desirable.  Camel hair coats are soft, elegant and ever so comfortable and this has not escaped the clever designers at MaxMara, Derek Lam and the like, who have produced luxuriously velvety camel cover-ups you won’t ever want to take off.  If you like the elongating abilities of pinstripe materials, this is the season for you. With sophisticated brands like Yves Saint Laurent and more avant-garde designers such as Christopher Kane producing all manner of styles out of the fabric, you will not be disappointed.  Going for the English gentleman country casual look? Then this winter’s penchant for tweed will be right up your street. Head to Ralph Lauren who is flying the flag for the fabric, with some totally must-have tailored blazers. Speaking of blazers, the recent resurrection of 1980’s power dressing is still standing strong – you only need head to Balmain for the ultimate in shoulder dressing.  For those non-traditionalists out there, fear not. Leather, animal print or fur (faux, naturally) are also big this season. Be it blazer, biker or cropped, winter’s leather jackets are slick and will empower any ensemble. For the all out rock-chick look, team with skinnies, a studded bucket back and a pair of killer heels. Or give animal prints a try – they are an instant boost in the glamour stakes and rev up any outfit.  The key to wearing any coat this season with the utmost finesse, is to belt it. With the waist taking centre stage once again, cinching your cover-up is an instant ticket to style success. Everyone was doing it on the catwalk, so don’t miss out!  So, there you have – classic, cosy, comfortable and sophisticated styles are the real hits this season. There’s a plethora of toppers to choose from and you can be guaranteed that your investment will keep on giving, all season long.

The Woman Means Business – Must-Have Work Accessories

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

Beat those back to work blues with sensational suede stilettos, commanding croc totes and leather accessories to die for.

January is the one month of the year you crave a fashionable little pick me up following the festive Christmas period. And what better way to do it than with some key on-trend accessories fit for independent businesswomen everywhere.

Designers this season have created footwear for all your working occasions, whether it be a boardroom meeting with the multi-million pound clients, or lunch with the boss at the Dorchester. Brian Atwood’s mercury coloured platforms with cutout detail, and quilted leather Chanel-esque pumps make for authoritative work dressing. For something a little more understated opt for Pierre Hardy’s multi-tonal suede and napa lace-up shoe, or Christian Louboutin’s divine double-platform suede bootie with laminato trim. Meanwhile, Donna Karan’s Oxford bootie in midnight velvet is a slightly sassier accompaniment to that pinstripe skirt-jacket combo. This winter’s footwear takes 1980s style power dressing to the max.  Then there is of course the working woman’s wardrobe staple: the briefcase bag. Designed to hold the contents of the standard man’s briefcase, this new style holdall evokes power and authority with a subtle twist of feminine charm. At Valextra a brushed leather oyster coloured number will work with a multitude of outfits, whilst Ralph Lauren’s burnt chocolate alligator briefcase proves more stylish than model Erin O’Connor at Ascot. And the sleek shape and affluent colouring of Proenza Schouler’s perforated leather holdall will only accentuate any shoulder-pad wearing working woman.   If you’re in need of some arm candy this January, treat yourself to Swiss brand Gc’s super-prestigious ‘Precious’ watch. At nearly £2,500 a pop, this diamond encrusted timepiece with mother-of-pearl face and a rose gold and black ceramic band will ensure you cinch any new business deal. And for fantastic head jewellery try Chanel’s ever so chic black and ornate gold Camellia headband with flower detail.  With accessories for businesswomen everywhere there is no greater time to return to work. This season’s offerings come in a palette of luxurious leather and suede, with a little bit of bling to boot.
