Power to the People – Autumn 2009 Accessories Report

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

fashion-editorialsStilorama Magazine’s Accessories Editor Jodie Hart review 2009′s must-have accessories.

This autumn power dressing is top of the fashion radar as we see the resurgence of the iconic clutch bag, the evocative thigh-high boot, and as culturally inspired headgear makes a firm imprint on foreheads everywhere. Only a fool would miss out on the hottest trends of the season.

while the weather may be all doom and gloom, your wardrobe needn’t suffer as a result. Forget last year’s covetable shoe boot, the sexy knee-high and the chic mid-calf; the sky is the limit for boot lengths in 2009. Dress up those (hopefully) still sun-tanned pins with a pair of gold brocade high-high boots a la Louis Vuitton. Or if you’re feeling audacious, team Vivienne Westwood Red Label’s cranberry coloured beauties with an LBD for instant autumn glamour. From brushed suede at Giles, to Peter Pan leather at Chloé and Prada, the thigh-high boot is the epitome of glam-rock for autumn ‘09.

Deciding what to team with your thigh-highs? Opt for a designer statement clutch, the bigger and more extravagant the better. Christian Louboutin’s bow-embellished bag in Tibetan gold will make for fabulous arm candy, as will Derek Lam’s suede version with pom-pom style fur detail. At Diane von Furstenberg a geometric sequin clutch with a wooden handle will accessorise any day-to-night outfit, and for those outlandish individuals amongst us, Basso & Brooke has the answer with a violet moc-croc and leopard print clutch. Regardless of size, colour or shape, there is only one way to carry your belongings through autumn, and that is in a lavishly decorated clutch bag.

With winter just around the corner, cover up with this season’s hottest new headgear. Whether it be a cap, hat, wrap, hood, turban or a trilby, there is something for all head shapes and sizes. Try Missoni’s super slouchy Windsor blue woollen snood for all-weather occasions, or a jet-black fur helmet at Karl Lagerfeld for a futuristic spin on autumn dressing. And if you fancy taking cultural headgear to the max, slip on Riccardo Tisci’s Russian inspired military masterpiece for Givenchy. This icy white-feathered headpiece will ensure you are the talk of the town.
