Betty Jackson’s love affair with the fashion industry is equally matched by the British public’s affection for her wonderful contribution to the fashion world. Her autumn collection seems to have taken its inspiration from the early 1980s with brown fabrics, long coats and jackets worn over short trousers and long wool skirts and dresses while shoulder pads got bigger and softer this season. The whole collection had an individualist feel to it, with minimalist grown-up touches. It felt as if Ms Jackson tried to portray in her designs and in her choice of fabrics and accessories a sense of understanding of the world’s financial climate, her clothes are the perfect example of things to come; individual, simple and fun.

Caroline Charles is no stranger to London Fashion Week; after more than four decades in the fashion industry, this British Designer shows no signs of slowing down. The inspiration behind her autumn and winter collection is from the 40s era, and her style remains classical and lady chic. The use of luxurious fabrics and sequins remain her trademark. In her new A/W 2009 collection Caroline Charles has managed to create a sense of youth in her classically inspired collection by adding small touches like tight fitted coloured tights and leggings under dresses and skirts. It seems that for the autumn Caroline Charles has
delivered nostalgia, class, youth and quality in one show without jeopardising her trademark.

Fashion journalism seems to attract a lot of interest from young writers who are always on the look out to get their fashion stories, articles and columns published in magazines. Stilorama Magazine is running a monthly fashion article writing competition. It’s an idea our fashion team came up with couple of months ago, due to the increasing demand from young writers who constantly email us, asking us to give them their first publishing break.
The article must be no more than 500 words, covering fashion and trend news. The closing date for Stilorama Magazine fashion article monthly competition is the 20th of every month. The winner will get their article published online as well as receive a great cosmetic goodie bag worth £100.
Please submit your article or column to www.stilorama.com/contact
We look forward to receiving your submissions. Due to the amount of queries we receive on a daily basis, we regret to say that only successful applicants will be contacted.
