Catwalk Trends at Affordable Prices

Sunday, August 17th, 2008

Whether you’re mad about the latest fashion trends or simply follow fashion for the sake of it, wearing a catwalk look for a fraction of the price is something most of us fashionistas would like to keep well hidden under our belts.  Only couple of weeks ago while holidaying in Spain I had someone come up to me and comment on my lovely D&G ruffle top (in other words my Red Herring ruffle top which I bought from Debenhams for a happy sum of £22.)  To my surprise I shamefully blabbed about how I purchased my lovely (D&G) top from Milan couple of months earlier and walked off trying to keep a straight face while my youngest daughter was insisting that the top I wore, was bought from Debenhams and not from Milan; “mummy you bought your top when we went shopping together before our holidays remember?”

I know, I know, I should have told the truth and not gone around by fabricating a story about my D&G lookalike top; but who can blame me for being so vain by not admitting the simple truth about my £22 Debenhams top?

I guess my attitude on that hot and sunny afternoon in Spain sums up the fashion world in one action.

“Your clothes are there to make you feel good about yourself and if possible not to break your bank balance, so next time you think of heading off to the shops to buy that gorgeous Valentino, Giorgio Armani, Gucci, Chanel, Marc Jacobs must have pair of shoes or dress, think again; a lookalike bargain might be waiting for you just around the corner!”

Maxi Dresses

Friday, August 15th, 2008

Don’t you just love them? Maxi dresses are one of my favourite quick fix make me feel good items in my wardrobe.   I mean how on earth could you go wrong with a maxi dress? They are a great way of covering all your body flaws especially when you have been unable to get that urgent waxing appointment.  Maxi dresses are also a sure way of looking absolutely glamorous when going out in the evening; and who can argue with the fact that a LBD (long black dress) is your one way ticket to a perfectly stunning dinner outfit?

A Maxi dress looks great on most body shapes and is also very flattering for expectant mothers; and hey if a maxi dress is good enough for Angelina Jolie, I’m sure it will be good enough for all of us unknown mortals.

Life in the fast fashion lane waits for no one, so just before I dash to start my early morning editorial quest, here is a list of my favourite designers and shops where you are bound to find the perfect Maxi dress:

Roberto Cavalli – Emilio Pucci – Monsoon – Great Plains – John Lewis – Debenhams – Wallis – J by Jasper Conran – Missoni – net-a-porter.com – Wallis – Issa – T-Bag – Ossie Clark – my-wardrobe.com – Just Cavalli – Rick Owens – Milly – Dolce & Gabbana
